Jekyll Island and Driftwood Beach

Our first stop on our North East trip took us to Jekyll Island in Georgia. This barrier island was originally developed as a place for millionaires to vacation.  Jenna, James and Aly joined us for some kayaking, biking, smore-eating, beach walking and beer tasting!  We only kayaked a little of the 22 mile by 1 to 5 mile island, but it was interesting going near the salt marshes and oyster bed sea shores.  Rukah enjoyed the beach, but not the sound of the baby waves breaking!  Looks like we have a task of desensitizing her to the crash as a wave breaks!

Rukah had fun on the beach (her first of many on this trip we hope!) The sound of the waves and the surging foam inspired her to grab her leash and pull us back to the dunes! She overcame her fear finally!

Biking along the salt marshes and the pier was an easy ride!

The pier had a covered area to protect the fisherfolks from the pounding sun!

A tree cemetery. There were signs that asked visitors not to pick up the driftwood or destroy the scene for others.

Driftwood beach has an eerie beauty to its simplicity.
